    Unanswered: unique clustered index creation

    hi there
i have a problem on the creation of an unique clustered index (on a large allpages locked table).
it fills all the log segment, and doesn't touch at the data one.
    is this normal ?
shouldn't the index be reorganised in the data segment ?

    thanx for your answers...

Clustered index creation ususally requiers 120% of the table space available as free space.

Yes. it should be on your data segment after the index completion. For the time of the creation it will be using the logsegment.

apparently, this problem only concerned the tables which had text fields.
we migrated recently from 11.9.2 to 12.5.3 and we hadn't rebuilt those tables...
after having done this, the recreation of the index uses less space on the log segment.

for the other tables, the recreation uses the space on the data segment.

Yes! the TEXT/IMAGE page pointer(linked list) structures were completely redeosgned starting ASE 12.0.x and the upgrade from 11.9,2 will take longer and more space. I'm pretty sure Sybase put a whitepaper on this when they released ASE 12.0
