    Unanswered: Create View

    Can MS Access do "create view"?

    CREATE VIEW view_name AS
    SELECT columns
    FROM table
    WHERE predicates;

    When I put it in the SQL View in the query, it does NOT run.

    I put it in modules, it doesn't run, too.

    Thanks.

    Short answer - no.

    Access only has Stored Queries which are slightly different to views. JET allows views however you cannot utilise them through the standard Access interface. Check out this (part 3 of 3 interesting JET SQL articles) for more details.

    You cannot create a Stored Query using SQL. You will need to create the object and append it to the Queries collection using ADOX or DAO.

    So, we cannot create virtual table in MS Access, right.

    Again - strictly no. However - more expansively, yes.

    As mentioned in the article, JET supports views. Access is a UI for JET. Unfortunately the Access UI does not support creation or use of views. BUT - ADO does and Access supports ADO (via VB).

    But in any case - please define virtual table as you mean it for your specific purpose - it may be that you don't actually need them.
