I suggest that you ask the person who successfully tested the name change procedure for assistance.
You can lead some folks to knowledge, but you can not make them think.
The average person thinks he's above average!
For most folks, they don't know, what they don't know.
Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement.

I can only share from painful experience that you would be well advised never to change the name of a server once Oracle has been installed. On my 9i instance, I found 56 files with the host name hard coded somewhere in the file. I found about 2-3 registry entries as well.

    In 10g it was worse.

I remember that changing the domain and IP of our Oracle server caused enough headache as it was: changes to the listener.ora, sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora files pretty much resolved those issues.

Beyond that (and I'm not saying this will work):
    1. Search for your old host name in the registry
    2. Search for your old host name in any files/folders
    3. Search for columns named 'target' or 'host' in the database (if you were running 8i OEM).

As an alternative, consider taking a backup and restoring to a newly built database.

As another alternative, consider SQL Server 2005 (just kidding!!!!!!)

Have you hugged your backup today?
