Unanswered: Performance problem in Tru64 Unix

    Hello All,

I am having performance problem in Tru6u Unix. Details are mentioned below :

    OS: Tru64 Unix
    Oracle Version : 8.1.7.4.0
    Forms : 6.0
    Mode: Oracle Parallel Server

When, developers are trying to save some data using forms, it's taking too much time.

Any hint/idea, how to start tracking the things, will be highly appreciated.

    Regards,
    Rajeev Tomar

How much data is 'some data'?
How much time is 'too much time'?
Is the form based on multiple blocks?
Are there any database level triggers firing?
    What are those triggers doing?

to add up to wrwelden questions:
    forms: web-based or client/based?
are kernel parameters set up correctly for oracle on tru64?
    network latency comes to mind?

Use statspack system-wide before and after using the forms and look for the waits in the reports.

I would look into how many possible locks you have within the db.
Perhaps the code is written where all the cursors use FOR UPDATE which
    could lock the table(s).

While things are "slow" see if there are any locks out there.

Please let me hear from you.

Start by reading this. When you say 'console' you mean you're working with the forms on the same PC the database resides on ?

    Find the lock/block:
    PHP Code:
    select substr(to_char(session_id),1,5"sid",

    substr(lock_type,1,15"lock type",

    substr(mode_held,1,15"mode held",

    substr(blocking_others,1,15"blocking?"

    from dba_locks
      where blocking_others
    'Blocking'

Yes you are right ....I am working on console, means Forms is on the same PC where database is.
