Unanswered: Linked Excel Data No longer updatable in Access

I got an article from the Advisor magazine regarding linked tables in Access to excel spreadsheets. The article talks about how Microsoft lost a patent lawsuit and sent out a service pack which takes away the capability of an excel linked table being updatable. After installing the service pack, you can no longer edit or insert data in the linked table. I was wondering if anyone else has any feedback on this. Although I want people to get their credit for what they developed (which the person suing Microsoft received 8.96 million), I frown on the fact that Microsoft had to remove this capability to prevent future payments.
