Unanswered: Need records in oracle database

    hi,

    The situation is like this:

The customer inputs some data in a shared folder. My program reads the file
at scheduled time, and must take this data to the database and run some queries there to pull out relevant data.

My database has no create table previlge(This has been set by DBA for all Oracle users in my company)...

I can however create a view, or temporary table...

i am unable to insert the data into the temporary table through sqlloader,
because as soon as insert ends , the session too ends and I can no longer use the data.

I can frame Insert into queries and run all sqls through one session, but then i am unable to automate it...the task has to be carried out manually...

    Solutions???thanks...

Are you able to setup external tables?

Is the shared folder on the database server? If so, you might ask your DBA to enable use of external tables (customer's file, actually) so that you could write queries which would include this external table too (you'd use it just like an ordinary table, join its columns with columns in another tables, ...).

[EDIT] Hi, Bill we have the same thoughts!

    hi

    hi,

I do not have enough previliges to create external tables...

The DBA is centrally located(not in my city) and there are developers across the country accessing the system...

We have been given one more database where we can create table but now due to a system proble it is down till noon everyday....and hence I need an alternate means to push data till the database given to me does not start working(it may take upto two weeks)

An alternative would be to download & install Application Express (HTMLDB) & use it.

if You can't create tables (even external tables), do you have access to Oracle forms or perl or java. Any of these applications/languages could access the flat files and query/update the base tables.
