Unanswered: Need help connecting to back-end database
I'm one step up from a newbie trying to write a cash register program. All was well until I used the Database Splitter to split my app into separate front/back ends. After the split, my database connection code didn't work. I proceeded to fix it and learned that you can't use the Seek method on the linked tables (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290060/). The article suggests that you open an ADO connection to the back-end database. Fine, I think I'm on the right path, but.
Assuming this is an appropriate approach to seeking and finding records in back-end database tables, the question is: How does one reference the path of the back-end db in a manner relative to the front-end? I want to be able to access the application over my local network using a simple shortcut to the front-end without having to hardcode the path to the back-end.
Thanks for the help!

Welcome to the real world ... You COULD pull the path from a file or have the path hardcoded in a module (you said no to this), or you could make a DSN that points to your back end ...Back to Access ... ADO is not the way to go for speed ...
