    Unanswered: Distributed Query Problem

    Hi All!

While running a distributed query i am having following problem.

    '
    Server: Msg 7391, Level 16, State 1, Procedure t25, Line 8
The operation could not be performed because the OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB' was unable to begin a distributed transaction.
[OLE/DB provider returned message: New transaction cannot enlist in the specified transaction coordinator. ]
OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'SQLOLEDB' ITransactionJoin::JoinTransaction returned 0x8004d00a].
    '

can any body give any solution for this ?
    Regards,
    Shabber.

Check the SQL server version and MDAC version too on both the servers. Also make sure MSDTC is started and running. Refer to KBA http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=839279 for relevant information.

    Well!
    Thanks or ur reply.
I have tried it to do for the same server.
Means on the same server i have different dbs.
And then i connect the server with itself throug linked server.

and when i try to insert the data into the other db on the same server but using the server name in the syntax like

    insert into [server].[db].dbo.table

    then it generates the error.

i have checked DTC, it is runing.

but how to check MDAC version .

    waiting for ur reply.
    regards,

Either you can use COMCHECK utility downloaded from MS website or
quickest (dirty too) is to Run REGEDT32 from run command and goto the following registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DataAccess

Also make sure Operating system is patched with latest service packs, to enable network DTC refer to KBA http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;873160 link too.

    One more thing Satya!

According to the link which u sent to me (of microsoft site), the 'log on as' account should be 'network service' . but on my case it is local system.

i m having windows 2000. Do i need to change here as well ?

    Regards,
    Shabber.
