Unanswered: connection through VPN
when connect with VPN can ping ASA server, telnet to 2638 port, but
dbping -c""eng=server;links=tcpip(host=server;port 2638)"
Adaptive Server Anywhere Server Ping Utility Version 126.96.36.1991
Ping server failed -- Database server not found.
have you tried it without vpn?
first you try on local network, if this ok than try on vpn
The connection works fine on local network, but as stated, when trying to connect remotely, get above error.
Could this be a perrmission issue domain controller?
This is being used with Windows VPN Client.

what i mean is try connecting without vpn 'remotely'.
if you say you can ping the ASA server ip then there should be no problem
unless you are using the personal server(dbeng) instead of the network server(dbsrv)
or you are not using the correct ASA client
or maybe its the VPN's fault...
