    Unanswered: Time difference in systimestamp

    Hi Experts,

    When I issue this command :

    In isqlplus

    select systimestamp from dual;

    18-MAY-06 07.20.03.330803 AM -04:00

    In Toad

    select systimestamp from dual;

    5/18/2006 4:49:22.340197 PM +05:30

    Why is there a difference in time when executed this command at the same time ?

    Can anyone advice me on this and how to check where the error is?

    Thanks
    sathidevi

    You are getting the same time (in fact 41 seconds between them) :

    07.20.03 AM -04:00 => 11.20.03 AM +00:00

    4:49:22.340197 PM +05:30 => 11.19.22 AM +00:00

    The reason why you are getting different displays is the TIME_ZONE parameter are different on the two sessions :

    Code:
    rbaraer@Ora10g> ALTER SESSION SET TIME_ZONE = '-5:0';

    Session altered.

    rbaraer@Ora10g>  select current_timestamp from dual;

    CURRENT_TIMESTAMP
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
    18-MAY-06 07.12.45.624506 AM -05:00

    rbaraer@Ora10g> ALTER SESSION SET TIME_ZONE = '+2:0';

    Session altered.

    rbaraer@Ora10g>  select current_timestamp from dual;

    CURRENT_TIMESTAMP
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
    18-MAY-06 02.12.57.793076 PM +02:00

    rbaraer@Ora10g>
    HTH & Regards,
