    Unanswered: Data Extraction Question

    Hi All;

    I have a Microsoft Access inventory table which lists multiple categorized items for each vendor...for example...vendor 1...item no. = 1111111; item description = widget; item category = tool. Each vendor may have items for more than one category...i.e tools and say belts. For each vendor I want to extract all those fields containing a specific category...for example....show me all the tools for vendor 1 but not belts.....show me all the belts for vendor 2 but not the tools. Ultimately I want to be able to extract a list of all the vendors whos category is tools and create a report for it. I hope this makes sense. Thanks in advance for your help

    Create a query using your inventory table (vendor, desc, category) and put 'tool' in the criteria line for the category column. Run the query and see what the results are.

    Change the query to a totals query. Remove description, choose 'group by' under vendor and 'where' under category. Run the query and see what the results are.

    You can accomplish everything using criteria and/or grouping in a query.
