    Angry Unanswered: Name problem

I have just "inherited" an Access database in which the names are stored in the following format: SURNAME, Christian name(s) : This being held in one field. Can you suggest any possible way of splitting this into seperate surname and christian name fields for ease of making the database searchable? Any help or pointers in the right direction would be most gratefully accepted,

several people have hot the same problem, there are postings on this available in the access archive on this site

essentially you need to consider doing an update query using a function or a fancy bit of sql

have a look at the string manipulation functions
    left$, right$, mid$, instr, strcomp, split & replace

split is well worth a look
I'd rather be riding on the Tiger 800 or the Norton
