Unanswered: How to execute a C program?

Ok the problem is not so easy as the title say. I deside to learn C and I installed the IDE Borland C++ 5.02 compiler ( I have it from an old seminar). The problem is that when I click the run button from the toolbar everything is ok, the program is compiled, linked and executed to a command window (DOS) but it not remain long and disappeared. The dos window does not stay very long. What can I do. It is impossible to find if the results are correct because the dos window doesn't stay very long.
    Thanks
