are we talking about Oracle or MySQL? Perhaps you'd get better answer on MySQL forum?

You are using Oracle to connect to the database? Are you sure you're not using JDBC to connect to an Oracle database, but possibly using a MySQL connection string? Though, like Littlefoot, I'm afraid you lost me with "beans". They are like tiny little bits of Java, right?
