    Unanswered: Set Timing On

    Hello,

    Can anybody explain the unit of output of SET TIMING ON

    Example:
    SQL>set timing on
    SQL> select count(1) from accounts;

    COUNT(1)
    ---------
    2923

    1 row selected.

    real: 156

    I just want to know the significane of 156?

    The "156" is the length of time it took for the query to run & is, I believe, in milliseconds. The length of time is not strictly a true reflection of the time taken as it includes the time taken from the workstation requesting the info to the info being passed back to the workstation (& so can be affected by network workloads etc).
    90% of users' problems can be resolved by punching them - the other 10% by switching off their PCs.
