Archives are a function of usage, the more usage, the faster the generation. The only way to slow down the generation of archive logs is to increase the size of your redo logs.

You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.

If your archive logs are 5 meg in size and they switch every 5 minutes during average usage and you want them to switch every hour, then increase the size of your redo logs to 60 meg in size and they will switch every hour.
