I have an Access-2K database setup as frontend/backend with numerous linked tables. One of the tables is linked to a laptop (which logs on in the evening to update other data) - all others are linked to the backend DB which is always online. My problem is it takes >30 seconds to open any linked table when the laptop is offline. If the laptop is online, they open instantly. Is there something I can do to speed up the response time when the laptop is offline?
Why don't you set the code up on your front end to perform some kind of check (perhaps ask the user) if the laptop is connected and only link the table (at run-time) if this is the case. This can be achieved using the docmd.transferdatabase command.
Alternatively scrap the spare table and use Access's built in replication function to get data off / put data on the laptop - this depends on how you have things set up.
