    Unanswered: Doing a truncate log

I have a query which no matter what way I tune results in a huge usage of the transaction log(around 300MB). The business requirements are such that I cannot write the query in any other way.

So is it ok for me to run the following at the end of the query

    dump tran <DB Name> with truncate_only checkpoint

    thanks

Yes - that's fine if you have no requirement to be able to recover the database past the last full dump. If there is a requirement then use

    dump tran <DB Name> to <mydumpdevice>

This will truncate the log in exactly the same way, bit will also give you a file that you can reload to roll forward to this point.
