Question for SWR - backup startegy

    Hi Dennis

I have started a thread in the Access forum:
    http://www.dbforums.com/showthread.php?t=1605962

By definition this thread is going to represent quite a lot of work and time on the part of me certainly and hopefully several other Access contributers.

I had a bit of a panicy moment just now. I don't need to know the details but would you be able to offer assurances that the disaster recovery and backup procedures are now in place and robust? That short of the production and off site backup servers simultaneously melting present and future posts are totally safe?

I'm sure you understand I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket if there is any risk of losing the thread

TIA for any reassurance you can provide (or any that you cannot).

    keep your own backup, pootie

that is the only sane strategy given the circumstances

there still are occasional screwups on this site -- i almost said database screwups, but you know what? it ain't the database screwing up, it's the app (vBulletin)

Yeah - good and obvious (except to me of course - duh) point. I've got all the original files of course but you are right - I will keep backups of the text

    Thanks Rudy

    Hi Dennis

    Follow up question

Is there a lock out on editing posts? I don't seem to be able to edit some posts I made a few days agao, specifically:
    http://www.dbforums.com/showpost.php...79&postcount=2

I spot checked a few others. Recent are fine, anything a week or so or older is uneditable.

Follow up question to my follow up question
If there is a lock out after a week - are Mods limited too?

We have nightly backups in place and still we store complete monthlys offsite.

I'm not sure any data is "completly safe." But I'm confident what we have in place will ensure the integrity of dBf.

hey, no problem, i don't need to see a busted thread

i just offer evidence, when i can, to demonstrate that things are ~not~ back to normal

there's nothing personal in that, it does not reflect on you, nor do i expect anything further to be done about it

    gone is gone
