    Unanswered: Sorting Question

I have setup a database with names, classes and dates. I have entered the name as one field i.e. "Joe Smith"

Is there a way to sort by the last name without splitting the name field into a first name and a last name?

Right now it sorts by first name.

    Your help would be appreciated.

    Thank you in advance.

One of the rules of database design is to break fields down into their most basic groups. Therefore, you should consider breaking the field into two fields, first name and last name. Then you can join these fields when you need to for their full name, and you can sort by first or last name.

So, exampli gratia, have one field with "Joe" and one with "Smith".
