    Unanswered: SQL databases mapping

    Hello,

I have a requirement to link two databases on the same server. Besides using the microsoft link option is there any other method by which we can link these two databases. Responses will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks

Define what you mean by link. Say you have two databases, "Foo" and "Bar". If all you want to do is to query data from "Foo" using a query or view or stored procedure in "Bar", than you only need to use three parts of the four part naming convention:

    Code:
    SELECT * FROM [foo].[dbo].[MyTable]
Depending on your security model and how you build your statement, you may run into issues with cross database ownership chaining, but that's a subject for a different post.

    Hello Scott,

Thanks for your reply. My requirement is related to Documentum. I can better explain the requirement if you are familiar with Documentum. Do let me know.

    Thanks

Nope. Doesn't mean anything to me.
