    Unanswered: import

    Hi,
Is this the right sysntx to import into a server
the idea is to create the required tablespaces.
    imp system/lon file=c:\runscript\20060829_test.DMP full=no

    Thanks

doesn't look like you have oracle installed onto that machine.
or, your PATH is not set to the oracle home.

I am assuming a few things:
    1. You are running this command from a DOS prompt (commandline)
    2. your database is on this windows box
    3. when you type imp help=y you actually get the help page

typing imp help=y gives the following message:
unknown command "imp help=y" - rest of line ignored.

"imp" is not a SQL or PL/SQL command; it's a separate program, which obviously must be started from the OS command line.

    import error

    Hi,
    Tried:
    $imp system/lon file=c:\scriptToRun\test.DMP log=c:\scriptToRun\test.log full=no

But it gave the following error in a file called xxx.log
    IMP-00058: ORACLE error 12560 encountered
    ORA-12560: TNSrotocol adapter error
    IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully

Tried something a bit different as follows:
    $imp system/lon@tnsname file=c:\scriptToRun\test.DMP log=c:\scriptToRun\test.log full=no

The new error is as follows:

    IMP-00058: ORACLE error 12154 encountered
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name
    IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully

dood, did you configure your tnsnames?
    it should be imp username/password@alias
alias being the tnsnames entry that points to the appropriate database sid.
please supply the exact line you use to connect through sqlplus.

Yes, that works now. Had to place @dnsname at the end as you suggested.
    Thanks
