    Question Unanswered: Sybase DB-Library error: 20003

    Hi ,

    Does any body aware of this error in sybase.
    We using sybase 12.5 on Solaries 8

    Here is the error

    DB-Library error: 20003 - SQL Server connection timed out. Level 6

    I would apperciate if somebody who knows can reply me with solution.

    It's a timeout - meaning that the client application has called DBSETLTIMEOUT() to specify a number of seconds after which the error handler is called if a query doesn't terminate. It's then up to the client code to handle this situation correctly.

    Look for requests that this client application makes and any queries that might take longer than they used to. You can use the MDA tables if you have 12.5.0.3 or later to help determine this information.

    I see one sybase case similer but on HP Unix machine...
    Check this out ...do you think some patchs also could cause this kind of issue ?

    Case Description

    After upgrading HP-UX from version 11.0 to version 11.11 (11.i) some applications started hanging with the following error:

    DB-Library error (20003): SQL Server connection timed out.

    The operating system was the only item upgraded and was done as an upgrade in place. Version of ASE in this case was ASE 12.0.0.7/ESD#1, but may occur on other versions of ASE running on HP-UX.

    After upgrading to the lastest versions of the STREAMS and ARPA patches for HP-UX 11.11 (11.i) this issue was resolved. Please contact HP support, referencing HP case # 3203557343 for additional details about these patches.

    This process is in place for about 2 yrs we had no issues , No data changes at all but all of sudden this stated happening.

    I never used MDA tables ..i might need to do research.

    Has there been any changes in the network setup? For example, has someone put in a firewall of some sort?

    Firewalls can have the effect you describe (i.e. cause connections to time out).

    Thumbs up Solved ..But not network issue.

    We advised the application people to connection time , they were throwing sql exception after certain period of try connecting.I asked them to increase that period.

    It's working (but i feel it's just work around)
