Unanswered: Connecting to DB using sqlplus

I want to connect to the Database from a SHELL script. When i do this i need to give the user name and password in the sqlplus parameter file. This would be a security issue. How can i connect to the database without the password in the file.

If your problem is that it shows in a PS, then startup sqlplus with a /nologon and have a connect command as the first line in your script.

what about os-authentication? no password needed

also, you could create a file (read only by oracle only) that has all necessary passwords.
then in your shell script you can call the file, pass the password parameter
    and move on.
