Unanswered: Re-use master and sybsystemprocs devices

I am running version 12.5.0.3 and I have a Sybase server that is not longer being used so we want to shutdown that server and create a new Sybase server. I would like to use the same 'master' and 'sybsytemprocs' devices. How do I clear those devices to where it doesn't thing it is already assigned to a Sybase instance? Thanks.

    You can do the following:

    1. drop all the user databases
    2. rename the server to another name: sp_addserver newname, local
and change the interfaces file and RUN_XXX files with the new server name.

Stop and restart the database process.

That said it may be easier to just rebuild a new server from scratch (i.e. use srvbuild but specify the existing master device...)

You are talking raw volumes I guess and hence the problem. Sybase puts a label in the first 2 blocks that prevents other Sybase dataservers from acquiring this device.

If you have a spare raw device(brand new, without any data) of the same size, then simply dd in the first 2 blocks from there to here

    Hmmm..

Isnt there an override option in the resource file, which will let override the build?
