    Question Unanswered: No regitered server?

I just installed SQL Server 2005 Enterpraise and am now trying to get started. However, there does not seem to be any server instance. When I try to create one (Management Studio > Database Engine > New > Server Registration) I get this error message:

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 53)

I can't find a solution to this issue.

I'm not sure but I thinkI might have had SqlExpress installed on this computer earlier.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Are you trying to register the server via Management Studio on the same machine as the server instance is on?
