Unhappy Unanswered: Moving a DB2 database from one AIX machine to another

    Hi

I have a Db2 database V8.1 running on an AIX Server ( AIX 5.1).Now i want it to move to another AIX 5.1 Server.

Problem is that the taget AIX server has a different IP address and host name as compared to source AIX server. The database is configured currently for online backups with archive logging ON.

Can any body advice me how to do this movement smoothly. Can i do the tar ( which directories .. pls specify) after downing source database and restore it on target AIX server. Will i have to do some changes in any DB2 configuration files???

Or only export and Import can help me?? Or DB2 backups and restoration would help me for this problem ??

    Thanks in advance for help!!!!

    Regards

    move

    you could take offline backup
db2 backup db xxx to /xx
move the backup image to new server and restore the db
db2 restore db xxx from /yy into newdb
if the filesystems do not exist on this new server, you will have to use redirected restore with set tablespace containers statements (see online infocenter for detailed syntax)

Good DBAs are not formed in a week or a month. They are created little by little, day by day. Protracted and patient effort is needed to develop good DBAs.

You can also take an on-line backup and use the INCLUDE LOGS keyword, and then in the redirected restore you would roll forward to the minimum timestamp allowed (try a timestamp of one year ago and the error message will tell you the minimum timestamp to use).
