    Unanswered: slow response

I have installed PostgreSQL on several computers. A PostgreSQL configuration file on all computers is the same. Computer configuration is the same as well.
    Any help will be appreciated.

When you say "Slow Response" - what do you mean?

Slow response to WHAT? Connection? Slow data throughput?

Note that the default PostgreSQL configuration is VERY conservative. This allows PostgreSQL to run on almost any machine, but you generally need to tweak it.

Take a look at the performance tuning section of the documentation. Also ref memory configuration settings

It means the same query has different response time on different computers only. I am talking about query execution only. I have tried to optimize the query. Here is some other information:
    • There are about 20 tables in database
    • 5 tables hold up to 350,000 rows ("big")
    • All other up to 50,000 rows
    • The query uses two of these "big" tables
    • High frequency of INSERT/DELETE into two tables ("trash")
    • "Trash" tables sometimes have up to 8,000 pages table space and ZERO
    • Full reindex & vacuum one time daily
    • 24/7 on-line

    Here are some my questions:
    • How can 8,000 pages of table space & 0-row have impact on query performance?
    • Because of high frequency of UPDATE/INSERT do I need set up reindex & vacuum more than 1 time daily?

Any help or direction will be appreciated.
