    Question Unanswered: Configuring Raw Devices

    Hi all,

    I am in process of configuring raw device for an application database on ASE 15.0 on Solaris 10 (SPARC 64 bit).

    How do I prepare the partition?

    I have executed following steps:
    chown for device to the Sybase owner.
    chgrp for device to the Sybase owner group.
    chmod 600 for the device.

    I am trying to use disk init as follows:

    disk init
    name="test_data_raw_dev_01",
    physname="/dev/rdsk/c1t3d0s7",
    vdevno=4,
    size="1000M"

    However, this is failing with the follwoing error in the log file:

    00:00000:00021:2006/10/16 19:13:30.48 kernel basis_dsizecheck: attempt to open device '/dev/rdsk/c1t3d0s7' failed, system error is: I/O error

    Please help...

    check the size of the device.
    maybe you entered a wrong one.

    basis_dsizecheck is normally a wrong size value.

    cheers
