Unanswered: Sybase stored procedure setting column to [NULL]

    Hello,

I have Oracle background but currently I'm working on Sybase. In the Sybase stored proc, I am inserting into a table through a SELECT statement. On one of the columns, I am using case statement for inserting a value. The default of the case statement is null (Case .. when .....then ....... else null end). This does not insert the [NULL] rather it inserts " " (single space).

After this, in the same stored procedure, I am updating that column to NULL (update table set column = NULL where column = " "). Even this does not insert a [NULL] but the column remains a " " (single space).

The only way I am able to insert [NULL] is by updating the table (using update table set column = NULL where column = " ") after executing the stored proc.

How do I set that column value to [NULL] inside the stored procedure??

    Thanks!
