    Unanswered: Input Mask

I'm trying to create an input mask for a record that specifies VOLUME/PAGE Number in the form of 123/456 or 12/3456, etc. I've tried every combination of 9999/9999; 9990/0999; text, numbers, etc. and I can't entry to store correctly. It keeps moving the numbers on different sides of the "/". The filed type is also important because I want to be able to sort by volume and page number. Any suggestions? Thanks.

apologies in advance - this is not a reply.

are you sure want to take two perfectly innocent fields and mangle them together into one...
...especially using the ghastly input mask thingie?

all your searches become a mess of string manipulation and/or like() ...shudder.

    sorry!

hes right, if i were you id create 2 fields in your table Pgnum and volumenum (considering that they are both always numbers no vloume 1A..)

then in the on_update event of the field volumenum id have it set focus to the pgnum field.

store them both seperatley and to sort you could just do this:

SELECT PgNum, volumenum FROM tblbooks WHERE Volumenum = "125"

    or

SELECT PgNum, volumenum FROM tblbooks WHERE pgnum = "1254"

if your directly determined to do it your way... i have no clue.

I think you all are right. I'm probably following previously established yet poor norms. Thanks for helping me see it a better way.
