Unanswered: Access 2000 Mail Merge Word 2003 via asp from Intranet

Problem: Launching Word 2003 from our Intranet and executing a mail merge based on an Access 2000 query.

This worked fine under Word 2000/Access 2000 but now fails either with the “Word could not re-establish a DDE connection…” statement or the document launches with no merge at all!

Staff select records from an Access 2000 database via Intranet. The selection is held against their staff no in a joined table (the 2nd table only holding the Database ID and one other field).

Staff then launch one of 3 Word templates by clicking on a button. Word launches in a separate window and the Merge should then launch with the request to enter their staff number to enable the merge to select only those records pertaining to them.

I have tried all the Microsoft work arounds and none work!
