    Unanswered: Delete old Rman Catalog Info ?

    I want to delete information about old backups from the RMAN Catalog -- without having it go back and touch the tapes containing the old backups.

    We have many ancient backups still recorded still in the Catalog. I want to get rid of a lot of stuff without waiting a long time to push through old tapes.

    Does anyone know I can do this?

    So far I tried typical commands like the follwoing, but they always try to access the old tapes before deleting the info from the Catalog --

    DELETE NOPROMPT FORCE OBSOLETE RECOVERY WINDOW 31 DAYS;

    Thank you for your help!

    You should allocate a dummy channel and then delete:

    Code:
    RMAN> allocate channel for maintenance device type sbt
            parms 'SBT_LIBRARY=oracle.disksbt, ENV=(BACKUP_DIR=/tmp)';
    RMAN> delete obsolete recovery window 31 days;

    Thanks

    Yes, thank you. Works great and doesn't touch the tapes after all.
