    Unanswered: Distributed Transactions on Sybase

    Hi, guys:

I'm writting a .NET application to acces a Sybase DB and I have to use distributed transactions to perform some updates in the DB. Do I have to install Jaguar component on my Sybase server in order to run distributed transactions? I'm considering to use System.Transactions instead of this component. Is this a valid option?

    Thanks.

You need a Sybase DTM licensed option, it comes with a bunch of XA libraries that can participate in external distributed transaction or use Sybase as the Transaction Co-ordinator.

    Hi Willy:

thank you for the info. Yes, that's what I found in the Sybase official documentation also. What do you mean with "use Sybase as the Transaction Co-ordinator"?

In a 2-Phase commit, you need a co-0rdinator. It can be an external coordinator like some app servers (jBoss) are capable or even third party db servers (Microsoft DTC) or internal, that is ASE to be the coordinator.
