Unanswered: spliting data in one cell to two

I need to create a query in MS Access that will split the data in one cell into two cells. I have done similarly in Excel using the =Left and =Right. However, I can not get that to work for a couple of reasons.

Example of the cell from Field1 I am trying to split.

    D: 7004-7004

The 7004-7004 can change to 89560-89560.

I need the d: in one cell and the ####-#### in another.

    Thank you,

    Jack

    Found it.

    by using mid([field1],4)

that will give me everything starting with the fourth digit in the field to the end of that field.

Thus the result would be 7004-7004 or 89560-89560. No need to be concerned with how many digits there are past the fourth character in the field.
