The Personal Lines (PL) Technology Solutions area of St Paul Travelers Insurance Company is looking for a highly effective BI engineer to lead development of analytical/reporting applications for use by the

PL Actuarial, Product, Sales, and Finance teams.

The applications to be built or enhanced by this team include Profile Trending, Quote Reporting, Controllable Income Reporting, Planning and Projection Model, Product Disruption Reporting, and Price Elasticity Modeling.

Technologies used include Teradata, SQL, Microsoft Analysis Services OLAP, MDX, Ab Initio, and front-end reporting tools.

These applications support the strategic focus of PL on competing by making better pricing, marketing, and product decisions through careful analysis of our historical data and current performance.

Lead the design and development of BI applications.

This position involves significant hands-on advanced development and technical work.

Key technologies used include:

Complex SQL and DB queries to aggregate, assemble, and translate data. Teradata and SQL Server are the primary database platforms.

Microsoft Analysis Services cubes for OLAP dimensional and aggregation reporting.

MDX for complex reporting queries.

Effectively and continuously learn the complex metrics and data used for the measurement of our product and financial performance. To learn our very complex and quantitative subject areas, one will need to have a high degree of curiosity, openness to learning facets of the insurance business, strong quantitative skills, and ability to quickly learn and synthesize.

Be a champion for the continued refinement of our work processes, around the realm of development, testing, and requirements specification. We would like to apply many of the applicable Agile software development practices in the BI realm.

Strong experience and knowledge of an OLAP tool and query language.

Microsoft Analysis Services preferred, but open to considering other experience.

Strong database logical and physical design knowledge and experience.

Microsoft SQL Server and/or Teradata preferred, but open to considering other experience.
