Unanswered: DB2 Install problems - AIX 64 Bit

    DB2 V8.1
    AIX 5300-05-03

I am trying to install DB2 on AIX machine but it fails when creating the instance. When I was running the setup, it asked me if I want to create the instance in 32 bit or 64 bit and I chose the 64 bit since the LPAR is 64 bit (both Kernel and Hardware). When it came to the step creating the instance, it failed with the following message in "db2icrt.log.307358" file (Also the db2setup.log file after the --------------- below):

    Thanks for any help.

DBI1281E The database manager configuration file could not be
    initialized.

    Explanation:

An error occurred when attempting to initialize the database
manager configuration file. A DB2 instance could not be created
    or migrated.

    User Response:

Refer to the log file for problem determination. Resolve the
problem and try the command again. If the problem persists,
    please contact IBM Support.

DBI1079I Output is saved in the log file /tmp/db2icrt.log.307358.

    Explanation:

All processed and failed operations have been saved into this log
    file.

    User Response:

Do not modify this file in any way. This file is for IBM
    Technical Support reference.

Did you run setup as a root user?

"It does not work" is not a valid problem statement.

Then I think you'll need to figure out why "touch: /tmp/db2idbm.tmp.442462 cannot create"

    Hi,

If your running as root, check the permission on /tmp directory.

If /tmp is not writable then installation will fail.

And give the hostname output as well in the next reply.
