    Unanswered: Informix Export & Import

    Hi,

How to perform export/import data to a dump file (.dmp) in Informix 9.4 i.e. what is the equivalent command of exp/imp of Oracle in Informix 9.4.

    what exactly you execute?
When you need simple dump file you should executy only:
    dbexport dbs -o path_to_some_directory
dbs- is name of database you want to backup
In path_to_some_directory directory is created the new one "dbs.exp" which contains the dump files.

    Hi,

    If you've specified:
    Code:
    dbexport -o output_dir
does output_dir already exist? The exportdirectory has to exist before using dbexport this way. It's a strange notification though and maybe it's caused by an omitted TAPEDEV value in the onconfig file. Check this out in UNIX with
    Code:
    onstat -c | grep TAPEDEV
If it has no value because you don't use a tapedevice set the value to /dev/null, stop and re-initialize the server.

    Hi,

The Export Command that I have give is

    dbexport ifx_db1 -o f:\Backup

It has been created a Directory ifx_db1.exp inside f:\backup

now I am giving the following statement

    dbimport ifx_db2 -i f:\backup

it is giving the following message

    "Cannot open sql script file"

after that I am giving the following statement

    dbimport ifx_db2 -i f:\backup\ifx_db1.exp\

it is also giving the same message

    "Cannot open sql script file"

    Please help

    You must execute: dbimport ifx_db1 -i f:\backup\ifx_db1.exp\

the name of new database should be the same as the name of db you backed up.

    or rename f:\backup\ifx_db1.exp to f:\backup\ifx_db2
    and f:\backup\ifx_db1\ifx_db1.sql to f:\backup\ifx_db1\ifx_db2.sql
