Unanswered: Creating alerts in sql 2005

Does anyone have a sample of an alert they created which would fire when a (backup database) maintenance plan fails?

I am unsure of the type, error number, and/or severity for an event of this type.

    Thanks Alot!

Backup failure is usually recorded into the errorlog, because the severity of such event is driven by a hardware-related issue (disk full, disk corruption, network failure in case of remote backup, etc.) Why do you need an additional alert on the failure of a backup job?
