first off I think it will pay substantial benefits to get some experince of using access.. consider going to adult education classes at the local college of further education
also consoder usign the help system (press F1)
mind you Access has a pretty neat search fucntion built in
select the field you want to search
the select the button on the tooll bar that looks like a pair of binoculars... folw the options as required
also you could consoder usign filter by form... look for the buttons that look like a funnel.
whilst you are at it, try moving the mouse over eeach button and see what the tool tip suggests
