Unanswered: GZIP flat file after creating it using utl_file in a procedure in a package

How can I "GZIP" a flat file that is created by using utl_file in a procedure that is in a package or for that fact in a standalone procedure?

    Oracle 10G R2 and/or 8i, OS is Unix.

Any help, info, direction is appreciated....

Via a cron job that looks for new files & the zip them

I easily found info on this on asktom.oracle.com
Search for "running unix command from pl/sql" or something similar
Apparently there are ways to do it from a java stored proc, or pl/sql via dbms_pipe

I haven't personally used any of these, so have fun...
