Unanswered: full system backup, restoring dumps, vertical text (was "Hi,")

    I have multiple questions Here

1)What do you mean by full system backup relating to database?

2)i took database db1 dump in HP-UX system (ase 12.5 version) and i would like to load that dump into IBM-AIX (ASe 12.5 version) of different database format?

    3) Can i print "sybase " as
    s
    y
    b
    a
    s
    e
    with out using block statements?

    Thanks in advance,

    pvvsnaveen.

    1) Related to a database might mean a database dump
Related to the sybase server will be a dump of all your databases and a backup of the sybase binaries (files and directories) required in case of DR.

    2) Adaptive Server Enterprise from version 12.5.2 support the dump and load of databases across platforms with the same endian architecture.
ASE 12.5.3, allow you to dump and load databases across platforms with different endian architecture.

    Big-endian
    Sun Solaris
    IBM AIX
    Silicon Graphics
    HP-UX on HPPA, HPIA
    MAC OS X

    Little-endian
    Linux IA
    Windows
    HP True 64*
    Sun Solaris x86

    3) Why?
    1> declare @v1 varchar(12)
2> select @v1= stuff( stuff( stuff( stuff( stuff("sybase",6,0,char(10))
    3> ,5,0,char(10)) ,4,0,char(10)) ,3,0,char(10)) ,2,0,char(10))
    4> print @v1
    5> go
    (1 row affected)
    s
    y
    b
    a
    s
    e

I'd like to add here, that our plugin will even let you do that directly - without creating an intermediate backup file (and thus helping consistency).

Our accompanying command-line utility will even do all the "heavy-lifting" required and assist with a clean transfer across endiannes:
    Code:
sybdump -S FROMSERVER -s TOSERVER FROMDB TODB
(Both the FROMSERVER and the TOSERVER need to have the plugin installed, of course.)
