Unanswered: moving content from one db to another

an outside developer has sent us a mdf file that contains the need updates to a database.

here is where the problem comes in, how can i append the contents of the mdf file to an existing db?

there are about a dozen tables, 50 stored procs, and one new user.

If it's a true .mdf file, then it is the data file portion of a database. Attach it to the server as a separate database using the sp_attach_single_file_db sproc and script out the procs.

Then backup your production database so that if anything goes wrong you can get back to your beginning position. Add the user, delta in the table data (or migrate them if they are new) and apply the scripted procs to create new procs or ALTER for the existing procs.

Sounds like you need to have a chat with the developer, he should have set this up to make it easier, IMHO.

If it's not a true .mdf, go back and make him give you a backup of the database, restore it to a new database name, and repeat as above.
