    Question Unanswered: "&" in function IN parameter

    I have an oracle function which accepts a single varchar2 parameter and returns a number after looking for a pattern ABC##### the input string eg.

    select func_parse_string('this is a test ABC12345 string') from dual

    would return "12345"

    one of the input string I tested had an "&" in it and the function is failing because of that eg. "this &is a test ABC12345 string". Can anyone please suggest a way out, also what other characters would make this function fail. link to any website would be really helpful.

    Thanks
    Rohit

    You can ignore the unwanted by using the REPLACE function.

    Example:

    select replace(yourcolumn,'&','') from yourtable;

    where & will be replaced by nothing
