    Unanswered: Sqlcode -973

During the execution of a query "SELECT DISTINCT..." we got SQLCODE -973 with the messages in db2diag.log

    2007-03-13-16.13.05.209046-420 E4190258A552 LEVEL: Severe (OS)
    PID : 10364 TID : 1 PROC : db2agent (QUOTEVOL) 0
INSTANCE: scifudbv NODE : 000 DB : QUOTEVOL
    APPHDL : 0-608 APPID: GA02135E.G20A.02FA03231543
FUNCTION: DB2 UDB, oper system services, getPrivateChunksFromOs, probe:100
    CALLED : OS, -, malloc
OSERR : ENOMEM (12) "Not enough space"
MESSAGE : Private memory and/or virtual address space exhausted
    DATA #1 : Requested size, PD_TYPE_MEM_REQUESTED_SIZE, 8 bytes

What parameters in DB cfg should be revised?
    Thanks,
    Igor.

When you got the sqlcode -973, did you get any other message? It should have reported on some heap name.

    Hi Andy,
Heap name in the -973 message is APP_CTL_HEAP_SZ
    and its size is:
    Max appl. control heap size (4KB) (APP_CTL_HEAP_SZ) = 2048
    Thanks,
    Igor.

That is the one you need to increase. Do it is small increments.

    Andy,
I thought about it but it is currently much larger than IBM recommends. For non-partition DB with remote clients they recommend to take default 128. Our size is 2048.

Fair enough. Maybe you can take the SQL query and simplify it somewhat. Also, what is your DB2 version and OS? How much Memory on server? What are the other dbm and db config parameters?
