As far as I am aware (and from looking into the problem) the answer is no.

I do pose you a question...
Why are you entering data into a PDF file?

An alternative method may be to input manually into Access then produce a report with the specified data, which can then be turned into a PDF (depending on how you are producing these PDFs in the first place).

Perhaps you could give some mroe background information and reasoning and we can come up with an alternate solution

    Thanks for the reply.

My client is a law firm - for each client, they need to fill in a PDF FORM (which has to be returned to a government agency). Then they enter the same data into an Access database.

They just wanted to reduce the duplicate efforts , in other words, to enter the data only ONCE, not twice.

Have you thought of reading the data electrronically. I use Iris OCR software running on an HP9110 All-in-One printer to scan the documents and turn them into text files. Using Word, you can use VBA scripting to extract the data of interest into the Access database.

    Regards,

Put the data into the Access database first, then create the PDF form using the data from the Access database.

Another possibility would be a firm that I have had a little contact with. Call 800-286-0111 and tell them what state you are in, and see if they can help. The firm name is Essential Forms. The business was started by an attorney and from what I have seen, it is a top rated business. The business is to help law offices with their forms, preparing them, filing them with the court, and maintaining accurate copies.

No, no. The PDF form is sent from a government agency to my client (law firm). It CANNOT be created from an Access database.

My client must submit the SAME FORM back to the government agency.

this ought to be do-able with a little effort.

i took an example form and completed the first few fields. this is what a quick browse in the PDF with my favorite hex-editor reveals:

(f1-N) seems to lead into the Nth field. the text i entered in fields 1,2,4 is clearly visible. field 3 is a checkbox - not yet obvious to me how the box i ticked is stored, but you should be able to persuade it to yield if you compare a few forms with different boxes checked.

once you have cracked how to find the data, it would be relatively trivial to parse the text.

You need software that can read the forms information in the PDF file.

PlanetPDF.com has some here and here.

I haven't used any of these, but this, this and this might fit the bill.

If you have the full version of Acrobat, you can export form data. (File/Form Data/Export Data From Form...)

or, alternatively you can make a nice .csv spreadsheet out of multiple form .pdf files by choosing "Create spreadsheet from data files..." from the same menu. You should be able to get the data to Access from there.

They all sound interesting. But is there a programmable solution (automated) other than these ?

If you have the full version of Acrobat, you can automate it using the Acrobat SDK. I would suggest using VB or .Net as the front end, (rather than Access) to extract the data, and update the .MDB file.
