I was asked how an excel-sheet can be protected. I played around with password-protection and that is working fine. But what I want to achieve is securing the file based on the username.
In Active Directory I created a group and assigned some users to it.
In Excel, I created a range an selected this group to grant access to the range.
I protect the workbook.
When testing, everyone is still able to edit the cells.
I searched the internet and there was mentioned that you should fill in a password, else everyone can edit the cell.
My question is : What are user(groups) for if you still need an additional password to get the range protected?
Is there any possibility to have my ranges protected just by username and without password?
Thanks for answering.
Currently we have an excel file to track all our projects.
These projects do have milestones which should be approved by certain people. Obviously person A can not approve milestone of person B.
Therefor I have 2 columns. Column A can only be edited by Person A en column B only by Person B.
That's what I need it for.
