Unanswered: sudo su - sybase & Sybase Central (Known problems?)

Hello. I've been struggling to get Sybase Central (on ASE 12.5.4 / java edition) to work when runnning under the "sudo su - sybase". I've been working with our UNIX/LINUX team, but they seem to not know any solutions. Is it possible to run Sybase Central on UNIX using "sudo su - sybase"?

    Thank you,

    Mark

What errors are you getting? Are you setting the DISPLAY properly? Is X-Windows enabled? Is xhosts file properly setup?

To be honest, I've not come across any installations so far that requires Sybase Central on UNIX

    Your questions...

    -------------------------------------------------------
"Are you setting the DISPLAY properly?"
    -------------------------------------------------------
I'm using the following to set the DISPLAY... export DISPLAY=11.123.15.14:10.0 or somethimes using... export DISPLAY=11.123.15.14:0.0

    -------------------------------------------------------
    "Is X-Windows enabled?"
    -------------------------------------------------------
How do I check? To be honest, I'm not sure.

dude, your X-Windows is not configured properly. If you aren't a UNIX'y sort of person I would get some help to get that sorted out first.

    UNIX team...

Unfortunately... Our UNIX team doesn't know what to do.

I've showed them the problem and they just shrug their shoulders. Unfortunately, Since I'm the new guy to team and the only Sybase DBA in the company (everyone else is Oracle), I don't have much leverage to ask them to help me to resolve.

Thanks a million for your help. Sincerely appreciate your feedback.

    Kind regards,

    Mark

but...this has nothing to do with being on Sybase or Oracle. Oracle requires X-Windows to work for dbca and so forth. If your Unix admin doesn't know this, he/she should find work at the local barber shop.
