    Unanswered: Block Management

    Hi gurus,

I am kinda confused on block management.

When we say coalesce, oracle will try to fix "fragmentation" right?
for example we have two blocks A and B. Both are halfway filled. When we coalesce these two blocks, Block A becomes 100% filled, now what happens when PCTFREE and PCTUSED had been previously defined? will Block A still become 100% full?

    No
You can lead some folks to knowledge, but you can not make them think.
The average person thinks he's above average!
For most folks, they don't know, what they don't know.
Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement.

coalesce will merge adjacent EMPTY blocks to show a larger available extent. If has nothing to do with De-fragmenting a table.
