I am curious about something: When configuring a Linked server to an Oracle database or a DB2 database, how are the differences in SQL syntaxes managed?

For example, suppose that the linked server is an Oracle 8i database, where you cannot use "inner join" because that was introduced in version 9, and you write in your SQL2005 query:

from MyO8LinkedTable1
inner join MyO8LinkexTable2 on MyO8LinkedTable2.ID = MyO8LinkedTable1.ID

Would that execute correctly? What about using keywords that are not common among DBMS's?
